The representative from Cobra Golf could not have offered any better advice.
“If you’re looking for a set of new clubs, today is the day to do it,” he said as the bright sun shined on the driving range at Black Butte Ranch’s Big Meadow.
Saturday was the first of two days of the Demo Days & Tent Sale at Big Meadow and the weather could not have been better. But that was not was he talking about.
For golfers, demo days are a virtual farmer’s market of all the latest and greatest golf equipment. Bridgestone Golf, Cobra, Nike Golf, Ping, and TaylorMade were all on hand at Big Meadow to show off their newest creations. They’ll be back again on Sunday at Big Meadow to do it again.
Until you have experienced a demo day, though, you can’t quite understand why they are all special. It’s one-stop shopping for the very thing golfers all love: state-of-the-art equipment.
One golfer on Saturday visited the demo day on Saturday fixated on a certain brand of clubs, he said. By day’s end he had hit every offering from every manufacturer. He ended up purchasing a full set from an unexpected manufacturer.
“It surprised my how much I loved this particular set,” said the golfer, a local player who lives in Bend. “But I guess that’s why you come to these. Until you’ve hit them all, you can’t be certain just what feels right.”
Of course, the demo day was just one event happening Saturday. The tent sale was hugely popular on the first day. And companies such as Portland’s Seamus Golf, which offers unique handcrafted items that are truly special pieces, were there to show off their wares, too.

“I look forward to this weekend every year,” said Jeff Fought, Black Butte Ranch’s director of golf. “I love to see so much activity at the Ranch, and to check out all the cool equipment is something that I still enjoy.”
There is still one more day for all to take advantage of the Tent Sale & Demo Day. Sunday the tent sale, which offers at least 40 percent off on all the big-name shoes and apparel, begins at 9 a.m. and will stay open until 4 p.m. Sunday’s demo day is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Everyone is welcome and admission is free.
