COVID-19 UPDATES
FACE COVERINGS UPDATE
Effective Saturday, March 12, 2022
Oregon, California, and Washington will be adopting new indoor mask policies soon. After Friday, March 11 at midnight, masks will no longer be required in most public indoor settings and schools on the west coast. This is possible because of declining COVID hospitalizations across the West.
There are some exceptions, and masks will still be required in health care settings and on public transportation. State officials highly recommend that people in high-risk groups continue to wear masks in indoor public settings even after the restrictions are lifted. They include people who are at higher risk because they are immunocompromised; have underlying health conditions that put them at higher risk of complications; are 65 or older; or who live with someone in one of those categories.
At the Ranch, face coverings will be optional for employees, owners and guests in indoor settings.
Additional details are available at https://govstatus.egov.com/OR-OHA-COVID-19.
We want to thank everyone for your support and understanding as all of our departments are proactively executing OSHA safety measures to ensure that the Ranch is a safe place for our employees, owners, and guests. The Ranch continues to be a great (and safe) escape for social distancing and exploring the great outdoors.
SAFETY PROTOCOLS
Your health and safety remains our top priority and we continue to implement measures to safeguard our employees, homeowners, and guests from the COVID-19 virus. We endorse the professional guidance, safety protocols, and Executive Orders as recommended by public health experts such as the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), The Oregon Health Authority (OHA), the Office of the Governor and Deschutes County officials.
We go to great lengths every night to deep clean and sanitize every public outlet with hospital grade cleaners. We have adopted strict protocols as recommended by professionals, and we continue to enforce social distancing, face covering and other appropriate measures throughout each outlet.
Protect yourself and your loved ones by practicing these precautions:
- Face coverings will be optional for employees, owners and guests in indoor settings
- Keep your distance – maintain a social distance of at least 6′ between you and others
- Wash your hands and use sanitizer frequently
- Hours, capacity and closures may change without notice

WIPES & PIPES
ALL WIPES CLOG PIPES
We appreciate that everyone is stepping up cleaning regimens. Please follow these guidelines when using disposable cleaning materials.
ALL Disposable Wipes should be discarded into the trash, including these items. They should NEVER be flushed down the toilet (even if the label says they’re flushable.)
Please do not flush these items:
- Cleaning Wipes
- Disinfectant Wipes
- Disposable Wipes
- Baby Wipes
- Cosmetic Wipes
- Personal Wipes
- “Flush-able” Wipes
- Paper Towels
- Tissue Paper
- Dental Floss
INFRASTRUCTURE
Protecting our infrastructure saves all of us a truckload of money. Wipes, whether
branded as “flush-able” or otherwise, should never be flushed down into our
sewer system. Most wipes do not dissolve the way toilet paper disintegrates with
liquids. Some wipes even have plastic woven into their fabrics causing it to wrap
around pumps instead of flowing through the pump and into the sewer line.
When lift station pumps back up, sewer can back fill into residential and
commercial sewer lines overflowing into lower lying wastewater vestibules like
tubs, showers and toilets. Sewer can also back up into the street from clogs in
major lines seeking pressure relief through manholes and other outlets. The
bottom line is…Wipes Clog Pipes!
COLLECTION SYSTEMS MAINTENANCE
Wipes and paper towels can survive the long journey from homes though miles of
sewer pipe and never dissolve. Although we spend the entire year maintaining
our sewer systems though remote camera robotics, flushing, repairing, and
removing tree roots and other debris, these non-dissolving wipes find grease or
other debris to adhere to and create large fatbergs and “rag” balls. These wads of
debris become impenetrable in the sewer lines.
Black Butte Ranch Utilities greatly appreciates your help in ensuring the collection
system continues to properly function for uninterrupted service for you and the
Ranch by only using toilet paper.
